The Cheza Social Applied Behavior Analysis protocol
Social ABA for autistic children in Nairobi and across Kenya: a family-centred, practical programme by Nairobi Outpatients Center.
Our approach
Cheza Intervention Social Applied Behavior Analysis is a family-centred, practical protocol designed to help families turn everyday interactions into meaningful opportunities for social communication, learning and developmental progress.
Core principle
The family becomes the child's primary therapeutic environment, supported by structured practical sessions and regular neurodevelopmental medical review.
The four phases
-
Family theory session
Understanding how to turn family time into continuous foundational therapy time, while moving the child’s review from feelings and subjectivity toward objective observation and measurable progress.
-
Foundational practical sessions
Block of 5 sessions, each lasting 2 hours (10 hours in total)
Ensuring that the theory is understood, practised and settled into the family’s daily routines.
-
Internalizing practical sessions
Block of 5 sessions, each lasting 2 hours (10 hours in total)
Supporting social ABA to become a natural and consistent part of the family’s daily life.
-
Maintenance practical sessions
2 sessions monthly, with a neurodevelopmental doctor’s review every 3 months
Continuing until the child’s communication milestones scientifically catch up with peers.
How Cheza puts it into practice
Assessment
You answer a questionnaire about what your child does at home. It shows which skills need practice: social, imitation, receptive and expressive communication.
Therapy games
Every month we choose printable therapy games for those skills, in the kinds of play your child likes.
6 hours a day
Play the games your child enjoys for at least 6 hours every day, and log it in the play tracker.
Family training
Practical sessions at the hospital, where a therapist shows you how to play and checks your homework.
Learn to play the Social ABA way, with a therapist
You bring your child to the hospital. The therapist plays with your child and shows you how you should play, then gives and checks your assignments: that you played the games at home. PFT sessions are the practical phases of the protocol: blocks of 5 sessions, each lasting 2 hours.
- KES 4,000 one session (2 hours)
- KES 15,000 the whole block of 5 sessions, discounted
Pay with M-Pesa from your Cheza account (you need a running therapy games month). When the payment is confirmed your PFT file opens, and the clinic gives you a slot for each session.

The intervention is supported by scheduled neurodevelopmental reviews to monitor progress using developmental milestones and objective clinical observations.
